Exercise Science Overview
The Exercise science program prepares students for work in fields including personal training, strength, and conditioning. Graduates from these programs can pursue careers in hospitals, private laboratories, and research facilities. The program also prepares students for various graduate and professional schools.
We are one of the top exercise science schools in New York, and offer one of the only programs in the tri-state area to hold both CAAHEP accreditation through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and ERP designation by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
You can choose one of 2 tracks, both leading to a B.S. in Exercise Science: Clinical or Performance. Both tracks prepare students for professional certification exams such as the ACSM Exercise Physiologist Certification (ACSM-EP) and the NSCA Certified and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
Clinical Track
The Exercise Science Clinical Track gives students the strong scientific foundation they need to be prepared for graduate studies in health profession programs such as physical therapy, exercise physiology, and more.
Performance Track
The Exercise Science Performance Track prepares students to work in high-demand fields such as strength and conditioning, personal training, weight loss management, and performance coaching just to name a few.
Career Opportunities
With a B.S. in Exercise Science, you can pursue a wide array of rewarding careers such as:
Strength and conditioning coaching
Exercise physiology
Athletic coaching
Corporate fitness
Fitness training
Our Exercise Science B.S. also prepares you for graduate school in allied health careers such as:
Physical therapy
Athletic training
Physical education
Sports nutrition
Biomechanics
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
Sports Psychology
Mercy’s Accredited Bachelor’s Program in Exercise Science Earns National Recognition
The Education Recognition Program (ERP) designation, awarded by the National Strength Conditioning Association, has singled out Mercy’s Exercise Science Bachelor’s Degree Program for its commitment to quality education leading to careers in exercise science. The recognition follows the program’s accomplishment last spring, when it earned continued accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education, the accrediting body for health sciences education, for the maximum period of ten years.

NSCA New York State Clinic
Students and faculty from the Exercise Science (EXSC) program enthusiastically participated in the esteemed National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) New York State Clinic, hosted at the prestigious Fordham University on April 6th. This highly anticipated event provided an exceptional platform for our community to engage with leading figures in the fitness and conditioning industry.
Students and Faculty Enjoy Shared Activity
In a delightful display of camaraderie and active engagement, a cohort of exercise science students and esteemed faculty recently convened at an indoor rock climbing facility. This gathering transcended the confines of the classroom, fostering meaningful connections among participants while offering an enriching experience into the realm of adventurous pursuits. Against the backdrop of ascending walls and harnesses, students seized the chance to forge bonds with both their peers and mentors, while also immersing themselves in the exhilarating challenge of rock climbing. Such communal endeavors not only fortify the academic community but also highlight the value of holistic growth beyond conventional learning environments.
