I have over 25 years of college teaching experience and still enjoy teaching and learning from my students.  I am also a Fulbright Scholar (Mexico, 2003). I began my academic administration career as head of the Criminology Department and Interim Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at University of South Florida/Sarasota and then as Chair of the Criminal Justice Program  at the University of Texas at El Paso.  Since coming to Mercy University in Fall, 2016 I have served as Director of the Criminal Justice Program; SSBS Assessment Coordinator; Interim Chair of Social Science Department in SSBS; PI of CJII grant delivering the BS in Behavioral Science at Sing Sing Correctional Facility; and a variety of committees for the School and University.

The focus of my research has been in the areas of the addictions and deviance, and possible mechanisms that could impact reduction of these types of behavior (in particular as it relates to Hispanics and other minority groups). While at Mercy University I have been fortunate to be able to continue publishing and presenting in my areas. Since arriving at Mercy University, I have expanded my research interests to include sources of police officer deviance, and possible mechanisms that can impact LGBTQ population issues. 

The focus of my teaching revolves around courses that provide students with theoretical understanding about crime and the criminal justice system, as well as teaching about the social science methods employed in the field. Students can expect ample opportunities for discussion and writing in all of my courses.  My most often taught courses are:
