Richard I. Mack retired as a lieutenant from the NYPD's Strategic Response Unit after 26 years, specializing in tactical response, HAZMAT, and crowd control. He also served as an Adjunct Professor in Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice at John Jay College for over 16 years, teaching multiculturalism in law enforcement and policing. For more than 20 years, Rich has volunteered with Police Organization Providing Peer Assistance (POPPA) as a Peer Support Officer, aiding during crises like 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Boston Marathon Bombings, and the Baltimore riots. He has lectured nationwide on police stress management and suicide prevention. Rich retired due to a line-of-duty injury sustained during the 2020 riots and is now the CEO of Mack Security Group. He finds teaching students in person particularly rewarding.
