March 10 Message from President Hall

Mercy College seal

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

It is hard to believe that it has been one year since COVID-19 first affected our community. As I reflect on the past 12 months, my heart is with those who have been personally impacted by COVID-19 as well as those who have lost loved ones. I wish you comfort as we all process the many ways, both large and small, that our worlds have changed over the last year.

While this has been one of the most challenging periods of my career, it has also been very rewarding. Faculty and staff have risen to the occasion, creating innovative ways to connect with students both academically and personally. They are working tirelessly so that their students’ education is not interrupted, and that their social and emotional needs are met in this new virtual learning environment. Our community continues to rally together to ensure that our campuses are following state health guidelines and that much needed resources are available for students.

Through the darkest of days and uncertainty, I have seen our community unite together to overcome obstacles and ensure we continue to fulfill the mission of Mercy College, and for that I am grateful.  Students, faculty, staff and alumni, many of whom are front-line workers, continue to impress me. They are making a positive impact in their communities during such a difficult time. If you haven’t done so yet, I encourage you to read the “Mavericks Making a Difference” stories here to learn about the contributions of these individuals.  I also want to extend a thank you to our community for adhering to the Mav Care Pledge and other safety guidelines to ensure Mercy was able to successfully remain open.  With decreasing rates of COVID-19 in our region and the roll out of the vaccines, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to campus in person for the fall term.

The Mercy community will mark the one-year anniversary tomorrow, March 11 at 5 p.m. at a virtual remembrance ceremony. The event will honor and remember members of the Mercy family who have been impacted by or lost during the pandemic.
