Cecil Wright, Ed.D., Mercy College’s executive director of recruitment for the Bronx and Manhattan Campuses, was honored at the 47th anniversary gala of The Williamsbridge NAACP Early Childhood Education Center in the Bronx.
Dr. Wright was among only eight honorees selected for the annual awards, which acknowledged the contributions of community leaders for their spiritual, educational, and community service efforts to on behalf of the Bronx community. Laura Rhodan, the organization’s Sponsoring Board Chair, praised Dr. Wright’s “dedication and commitment to the children and families of the child care center and the community at large.”
In his acceptance speech at the May 18 event, Dr. Wright recalled a time when he and his wife were raising two daughters, working and going to school. “Our routine included dropping our two girls off at Williamsbridge NAACP Early Childhood Education Center,” he said. Two decades later, both had advanced degrees and careers in higher education. “Being recognized by a branch of the NAACP, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization, for my commitment to providing opportunities for all those who endeavor to improve their lives through the power of education is truly an honor.”
In addition to his role in Mercy’s Office of Admissions, Dr. Wright is the founder of Male Empowerment, one of the largest one-day mentoring programs in New York, co-founder of AIMHIGH Empowerment Institutes and Chief Executive Officer at ETS Cloud Services.
