On Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. Mercy College President Tim Hall will be hosting a virtual reception in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Building on the success of previous community events, the Zoom-based reception will bring together Mercy students, faculty, staff and community partners to highlight the ways in which the College is committed to creating policies, practices and support systems to ensure the success of Latinx students.
In addition, speakers will provide an overview of historical data and future trends surrounding the Latinx college student population to help inform the higher education community’s strategies surrounding recruitment, retention and programming.
The reception speakers will include Mercy College President Tim Hall, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs José Herrera, Mercy College Professor and poet Celia Reissig-Vasile, Ph.D., Adriana Rodriguez, Excelencia in Education’s vice president for programs, Cosette Guiterrez, deputy executive director for Latino U College Access and Mercy student Daniel Montez ’21.
In addition to hearing from distinguished speakers, reception attendees will participate in a networking, break-out group component where they will have an opportunity to discuss the issues facing Latinx students and solutions to ensuring their educational achievement.
