Mercy Cuts the Ribbon on the New STEM Student Research Center

On Thursday, February 28, Mercy College will officially launch its new STEM Student Research Center, marking the first campus facility dedicated to the support of Mercy students pursuing majors in biology, psychology, math, computer science, computer information systems and cybersecurity.

President Tim Hall and Provost José Herrera will deliver brief remarks before the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will be followed by light refreshments.

For nearly a decade, Mercy College has been a leader in expanding STEM literacy in the region, offering programs for teaching professionals, college and elementary students, and the community at large. Among the offerings are advanced certificate programs for current K-12 educators; Saturday programming for elementary school students; a series of bilingual science discovery nights for students and their families; and a growing number of graduate programs and certificates in STEM pedagogy, a STEM Master Teacher Fellowship, and an intensive math and science teacher training leading to certification in New York State.

The Center for STEM Education, which opened in 2016, has helped grow Mercy’s commitment to STEM educators and their students. The new STEM Student Research Center provides additional support for Mercy students majoring in STEM subjects, including a dedicated area for research, study group work, reference materials, and a lounge for students to gather with other students for collaboration and peer support.

The ribbon cutting event will begin at 2:15 pm in Mercy Hall, Room 29B. All are welcome to attend.
