Rob Cornetta, associate director of Mercy’s PACT (Personalized Achievement Contract) Program, has been appointed chair of the Academic Coaching Advising Community for the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), an international educational association that promotes and supports academic advising in higher education. The announcement was made at the 2024 Annual NACADA Conference. NACADA is a not-for-profit organization.

“This appointment is an opportunity to challenge myself personally and professionally, grow as an advisor and leader, and represent the incredible work that Mercy University is doing within a global organization,” said Cornetta about his appointment.

NACADA is a not-for-profit association that connects advising professionals worldwide, providing opportunities for professional development, collaboration, and innovation in academic advising. As chair, Cornetta will lead efforts to set goals for the Academic Coaching Advising Community, build a steering committee, and organize virtual events accessible to all NACADA members.

“Advising communities are a chance for NACADA members to engage with other members who share similar passions in academic advising,” he explained. “I look forward to connecting with likeminded advisors, learning about new strategies that can inform my work here at Mercy, and ultimately sharing the fantastic work our PACT team is already doing.”

An active member of NACADA since 2022, Cornetta also presented at the 2024 Annual NACADA Conference, showcasing Mercy’s innovative PACT program. Joined by associate director Griffin Shiland, they discussed how Mercy has incorporated academic coaching strategies and techniques into the PACT team’s advising model.

“It was such a great feeling to share our work,” he said. “A special thank you is due to Leighann VanDeBogart, for her wonderful support, Griffin Shiland (my co-presenter), for his incredible collaboration, and all of the amazing efforts of the entire Academic Coaching workgroup.”

Cornetta’s appointment highlights his dedication to advancing academic advising and the ongoing success of Mercy’s PACT Program.
