PBL conference

Project Based Learning Institute

Eight faculty members from the School of Health and Natural Sciences (SHNS) at Mercy University recently participated in the Project Based Learning Institute held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from June 20-22. Led by their coach, Natalie Farny, a biology faculty member at WPI, the group collaborated to create a comprehensive PBL scaffolding resource. This resource is designed to assist Mercy University faculty in effectively integrating project based learning into their respective courses.

The participating faculty members included Mindy Donovan, Jean Walsh, Amanda Bireline, Fenn Esser, Tharushi Perera, Danielle Basore, Devdutta Deb, and Kimberly Merani. Beyond developing the scaffolding resource, they also pursued individual projects aimed at enhancing their teaching methodologies. Their collective efforts are expected to pave the way for the introduction of new PBL modules across various courses at Mercy University in the near future.

Preparing for a Career in Medicine

Our B.S. in Biology includes courses that are standard pre-requisite courses, commonly recommended, or essential for success in a medical school application and preparation for the Medical College Admission Test.

Completing the B.S. in Biology does not guarantee admission to a Mercy University graduate professional program or medical school. Graduates of the B.S. in Biology must apply to chosen programs, meet specific requirements and compete with all other applicants. The B.S. in Biology may or may not satisfy the course requirements for admission to graduate or medical programs. Courses can vary based on the college/university. Students have the responsibility to check entrance requirements for college/university to which they intend to apply.
